Back, Right After This
The halfbakery is slowly returning to view, as the new DNS info propagates. It still takes over 2 days to get all the name servers on Earth updated. In the meantime, a web site will pop in and out. In this case, when the hb was moved to GoDaddy, Network Solutions immediately dumped it into the 404 void, where reavers lurk to capture unloved domain names. So the halfbakery became a strange "helpful links under constructon" thing, until the new nameserver info kicked in. So, why would Network Solutions kill a site that's still paid in full for another month? Go figure.

It's a Little Down Today
"halfbakery.com" goes to a fake "Network Solutions" parking page today. All the DNS information has changed, with anonymous site owners, and the Internet "DNS" Name Servers have been updating to point to the new page. This was rather sudden. It's possible that someone made a terrific offer for the web name "halfbakery.com", and the name was sold. But it's also possible that the registration was hijacked. Or, the hb is simply moving to a new registrar, and we see a goofy default page in the interim. The strange thing is, this new "Network Solutions" page has all of its images hosted by "Kolmic.com", with real links to the Network Solutions site, just the way a Phishing page might be set up.
I think the "real" halfbakery is still halfbaking away, but the server is not easily accessible at this time.

And Now The Good Stuff
I earlier posted halfbakery.com ideas of my own that I like. Here are some ideas, in no particular order, from persons other than myself, which are great ideas. At least, ideas like this are the reason I enjoy the halfbakery. Most of them were buried much too soon.
Lifeless Limericks
Half-Mensa
Re-entry Fried Chicken
Equal-Sized Corn Bread
Bimetallic Teaspoon
miserable buddha
Propane fueled video display
Douglas Adams Exercise Incentivizer

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the toilet
On halfbakery.com, there's an idea that invites a list of "
Mostly Lame Halfbakery Taglines". But they are mostly suitable taglines. So I've typed a list of truly rejectable taglines. They'd still all be great to use, but don't hold your breath...

Gopherfield
My review of the movie "cloverfield":
I saw The Blair Witch Godzilla yesterday. It's got lots of destruction, and I found it to be rated just "1-P" (a very exciting movie might require as many as 2-P, depending on cola size, how irresistable the current scene is, and movie length). It's filmed in "Jiggle-Cam", which you have 20 minutes to get accustomed to, before the rampage starts. I just wish the characters would stop saying "this is a terrible thing" -- I felt like hollering to the screen "It's not so bad!"
The special effects are great, as with most newer sci-fi movies. There was no continuous cussing, as there was with Blare Witch. There are some intense action moments, and blurry gore (bloody people you might see on CSI). Most of the frights made me think "Wow, you don't see that every day!", although my main reaction was "I don't know what's happening, but it seems to be scary". Although it was "filmed on a personal camcorder", the sound is fantastic -- you don't often get that audio range without professional sound equipment. I won't say more about what was causing all the havoc, in case you've been working hard to avoid finding out the extremely thin plot, in which case you need to stop reading these reviews immediately. I went to the first show on Friday, since I knew it would help preserve any surprise.

What is Amos All About?
Over the past six years, I've posted a handful of ideas on halfbakery.com. Of my posts, these are my favorites, in no particular order:
International Geek Exchange
halfbaker eye
Nudge-Nudge
Firefly Call
Synchronized Audio Convergence
Earth Disco Ball Days
Those, and most of the others, are great because of thoughtful, interesting, often hilarious replies. With that, the ideas themselves are irrelevant.
